ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. -- Brother Daniel “Dan” McCormick, C.F.A., was installed Monday, November 26, 2012 as the 27th Provincial of the Congregation of Alexian Brothers of the Immaculate Conception Province during a Mass held at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, Ill. Brother Dan, who has served as Director of Vocations for the U.S. ministries of the Province since 2006, succeeds Brother Jim Classon, C.F.A., who recently completed his four-year term as Provincial. In his new role, Brother McCormick will assume leadership of the Province, which includes religious Brothers in the United States, Hungary and the Philippines.
Brother Dan joined the Alexian Brothers in 1994 as a postulant, took First Vows in 1996 and Life Vows in 1999. He has served in numerous roles during his 18 years with the Congregation, including Associate Director of Development for Bonaventure House, Director of the Alexian Brothers Community in Elk Grove Village, Ill., Risk Manager and Patient Advocate at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital, Director of Vocations for the U.S. Ministries of the Immaculate Conception Province, Chairperson of the Alexian Brothers AIDS Ministry, Director of the Alexian Brothers Community in Milwaukee, Member of the Alexian Brothers Health System Quality Council and Member of the Alexian Brothers Senior Ministries Board of Directors.
The Alexian Brothers of the Immaculate Conception Province elected Brother Dan as Provincial in a vote during their annual Provincial Assembly, which concluded in September. The Alexian Brothers also elected Brother Lawrence Krueger, C.F.A., Brother Jeffrey Callander, C.F.A., and Brother Richard Lowe, C.F.A., to join Brother Dan on the Provincial Council.
In remarks following his installation, Brother Dan, 65, discussed the challenges facing the Alexian Brothers. “The top challenges facing the Brothers are declining vocations and the ongoing effort to identify men with a true calling to religious life,” Brother Dan says.
Other Alexian Brothers in attendance at the ceremony included Brother Edward Walsh, C.F.A., Superior General of the worldwide Congregation of Alexian Brothers; Brother Jeffrey Callander, U.S. Novice Director; Brother Warren Longo, C.F.A., Assistant General of the Congregation of Alexian Brothers; Brother Thomas Keusenkothen, C.F.A., former ABHS President and Chief Executive Officer; Brother Theodore “Ted” Loucks, C.F.A.; Brother Tom Klein, C.F.A.; and Novice Brother Paul Magner. Among the Alexian Brothers Health System leaders present at the installation was Mark Frey, ABHS President and Chief Executive Officer, whom Brother Dan credited for teaching him about managing people and achieving goals. Frey led Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital in Hoffman Estates, Ill., during Brother Dan’s tenure as a risk manager and patient advocate at the behavioral health facility.
Brother Dan is a graduate of McNeese State University, Lake Charles, Louisiana. He earned a Master of Pastoral Studies from Loyola University and his Master of Social Work Degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago.
